We are an agile and lean organisation with a flat organisational structure and we work in an inter-disciplinary way. Our team is comprised of urban planners, social entrepreneurs and management consultants.
JOHAN OLIVIER - DIRECTOR
Johan is the co-founder and director of Ranyaka and has more than 25 years experience in development. He held senior positions in the City of Joburg including Director: Growth Management. Following his stint in the public sector, Johan and William (a board member) founded Akanya Development Solutions in 2001, an urban development consultancy where they completed numerous land use, spatial planning and strategic planning assignments for public and private sector clients. Johan graduated with BA Town and Regional Planning (North West University) and Batchelor of Business Administration (UNISA), and also completed a Diploma in Project Management and an Urban Design Studio.
MARLI GOUSSARD - enterprise development & COLLABORATIONS
Marli is the founder of Co-Create Consult where she helps entrepreneurs, NPOs and civic networks design impactful programmes. Marli is supporting enterprise development and builds collaborations for Ranyaka. Previously she worked for the WWF for ten years as a corporate relations specialist. She graduated with a BTech Public Relations Management (Cape Peninsula University of Technology).
SONYA OLIVIER - marketing & COMMUNICATIONS
Sonya holds an honours degree in Business Communication from North-West University and has been working in the fields of marketing, public relations, publishing and event planning for the past 24 years. Her experience spans the government, corporate and non-profit sectors. She is passionate about storytelling and documentary photography.
susan yallop - Systems & OPERATIONS MANAGER
Susan holds over 25 years' global experience in I.T. delivery, project management and process re-engineering within the product, financial and retail environments. Within Ranyaka, Susan focuses on systems design and operational project management, with specific strengths including stakeholder and risk managment. Susan is also a certified Prince 2 practitioner.
WALTER FIEUW - strategy consultant
Walter is the founder of Making of Cities, an urban development consultancy, and he is currently a consultant to Ranyaka on strategy, programme implementation, branding, fund raising and the Ranyaka protocol . He graduated with MPhil Sustainable Development (Stellenbosch University) and MSc City Planning and Property (University of Glasgow), and also completed post-graduate diplomas in Financial Management (ACCA) and urban design (University of Strathclyde).
AMY LEVENDAL - OPERATIONS COORDINATOR
Amy is a Jamestown resident and is the operations coordinator of Ranyaka. She has a passion for community development and heritage, and currently serves on the Jamestown Heritage Committee. Amy graduated with a diploma in Public Relations (UNISA) and is studying towards a BA Political Science (also through UNISA). Before joining Ranyaka, Amy worked in logistics and operations industries.
MAGGIE TSOTETSI - consulting urban planner
Maggie is the founder Motheo Resource town and is a consulting urban planner to Ranyaka. Motheo is a Gauteng based planning and project management firm focusing on the development of rural and township economies. Maggie provides strategic solutions towards achieving holistic and integrated development in communities and she has a passion for community based planning, participatory planning and local economic development. She graduated with a B. Town and Regional Planning (University of Pretoria) in 2011.
